Top Trends 2023/24 Maison et Objet & Paris Deco Off

What will replace bouclé? Is grey gone away for good? My insights from Maison et Objet and Paris Deco Off 2023 may surprise you.

A Textile Consultant’s View

One of the most inspirational design weeks for design professionals and enthusiasts, the shows Maison et Objet, Paris Deco Off and Paris Deco Home come together in Paris in January to set the tone for the coming year in the interior design world. This week of wonder is a must-see for me–essential to get a temperature read on design as well as the mood and concerns of industry.

I visited the Paris shows this year with two hats on: consulting for my high-end clientele’s product launches, and analyzing thousands of offerings from decoration companies for incoming design trends that I compile into reports to help my subscribers do their best work.

Originally my proprietary show reports were available only to private consulting clients–trusting me to guide their businesses toward success. Today these valuable insights are available to all of our paid subscribers, who have amazing things to say about how The Textile Eye helps their business and creativity.

Maison et Objet, Paris Deco Off and Paris Deco Home: The Numbers

The bi-annual Maison et Objet at the Paris Nord Villepinte —a top-3 European event for interior design— covers the entire lifestyle sector. In 2023, 2300 brands hailing from almost 150 countries exhibited decorative pieces, designer furniture, accessories, textiles, fragrances and tableware. This year, over 67,000 visitors from 144 countries saw the latest trends from icons and emerging design talent.

Dubbed the “fashion week for the interiors industry” Paris Deco Off offers textiles, wallcovering, wallpaper and trimming, while its complement Paris Deco Home offers furniture, lighting, carpeting, home textiles and decoration accessories.

After seeing thousands of new introductions at the January 2023 editions of Maison et Objet, Paris Deco Off and Paris Deco Home, I curated all my insights about the latest trends into Report 16: Spring Review, available now to paid subscribers.

What’s Next for Design

With the biggest fabric trend of late reaching its saturation point, “What will replace bouclé?” is one of the questions on everyone’s mind as we review Spring collections and plan product launches. During the January shows I am gleaning as much information as possible about trends that will be affecting the interior decoration world in upcoming years–from style to color, and material to application.

From Braquenié’s spectacular 200th-year collection to the unveiling of archival reissues at many companies, the remarkable power of reinvention was evident. Modern design also delivered excitement.

In Report 16 Spring Review: Maison et Objet and Paris Deco Off, we outline important concepts, colors, and fresh design talent from the shows. Emerging design themes are broken down into easy takeaways about predominant social and stylistic influences, fiber and yarns choices, dye techniques and finishes. Predominant hues are organized by palette or shade for ease of use in your design work. Colors are contextualized and compared to previous seasons, and analyzed for social, style and material influences.

From important design themes to useful color chips, up-and-coming qualities to reinventing archives, this report is a deep dive into the dominant trends at the “fashion week of interior design” and the faces behind them.
